Heading on down to SX, gonna see if I can unwind…

So it looks like I’ll be spending quite a bit of time in Downtown Austin for SXSW.  I will be working a lot, as well as spreading information about the podcast. Hit me on Twitter and let me know if you are in town for SXSW.

Ready for SXSW?

I’m getting ready for SXSW this year, and for me, it starts on the 8th.  In past years,  I’ve been ready to pull out what little hair I have left, but for 2015, I’m ready to go.

I’ve lived in the Austin area since 1993, and this town turns into a madhouse, but this year I want that craziness.   I’m booked for work for all of SXSW this time, after missing last year due to foot surgery.

Come find me or my business cards during the madness …

Coming back from a long hiatus…

Hello.  Been a while.

Sometimes life gets in the way of things you love to do, and in the case of the podcast, something had to give.  I’ve spent the last couple years running like crazy; working three jobs, going to school full-time, and trying to write, record, edit, market, and build the podcast.

In hindsight, trying to do the podcast on a weekly basis was pretty insane, especially given all the other responsibilities I had when this started.  I thought about changing the format of the show, or using new and unknown bands, but that is not what the concept of the podcast was intended to do.

But enough of that.  It’s time to get things going again, and I am once again looking for music for the show.

If you were in a band, or were a fan of a band that no longer puts out music or plays shows, please get in contact with me.

Time for me to get back to work.

So there’s that… there… then…

I’ve spent the last 4 days at the beach, hunkered in under rain and wind, and unable to get to my computer for podcast purposes.  That’s okay, though, because I already had an idea of the songs for this week’s show.

This week’s podcast features two bands that I have never played on the show, and another song from Turbodwarf.

Olive Street – Dealbreaker

Turbodwarf – Here It Is

The Scobeys – Above

Hate to cut things short this week, but I have to finish up a couple more projects and be done with them.

Peace and chicken grease.

A Little Bit of This/A Little Bit of That

So I had a conversation with a friend of mine last week about the podcast, and he said something very interesting to me. He said he really liked the “Mixtape” episode, because even if he didn’t like one of the bands, he knew something else would be next.

Good point.

I like hearing feedback on ways to improve the podcast, and this bit of information was good for more reasons than one.

Many times, the music I get does not come with much back story. I had one friend, who I know well, give me the years his old band was together, and then ask me if that sounded right. Hell, I can barely remember some of my own bands’ time together.

So I’m changing the show.

Don’t get me wrong, when I do get all the information I would like to have, I will still do episodes that feature one particular band. My goal has always been to archive and collect as much information about bands as possible, especially before everyone forgets and all is lost.

However, the music itself remains the highest priority. Changing the format allows me to use more songs from individual bands in various episodes, instead of limiting them to three or four in one episode. It also makes it easier to use music I find at Goodwill, Half Price Books, and other stores that sell used CDs. You know those clearance, $1 CDs that might be really terrible or could be amazing? When I buy those, it’s like shooting dice, because I might have just wasted a dollar or found something great.

So this week’s podcast will feature music from 4 bands:

Bloodshot Pyramid – Newborn Addiction

Turbodwarf – Wornout Soul

Who Rides The Tiger – Hollywood Hates You

Strong Rock – Bitch Fiesta

Head on over to the Facebook page and let me know what you think.

Death in Amber – Episode 7

Hardcore Southern Metal

I know of the band Cactus Rash from their guitar/vocalist, Byron, who was the resident sound man at The Gray Horse Saloon in San Marcos. Byron was a cool guy, and always did his best to make my band sound good when we played there.  He also sold me a couple of snare drums one time.

Regardless.  Cactus Rash played Southern Hardcore Metal…  and loud.  I saw their show one night and I can honestly say, they were great and thank Odin for earplugs.

The band consisted of:

Jody – Vox

Rodrick – Bass

Byron – Guitar/Vox

Johnny – Guitar/Harmonica

Shea – Drums

They played their final show/CD release on May 22, 2010.

Here is a link to some of their tunes online, and also a link to their Facebook page.

Seeking quality music to feature on the podcast.

I am looking for bands to feature on the show.

If you were in, or have a recording of a band you want to hear on the show, please let me know.  It doesn’t matter how much background information you can find on them or what genre of music.  This podcast is not a critique of people’s music, it is a showcase.  There are several ways to get in touch with me, listed in the contact information, on the submissions page, or simply at:
